Editha-Néfertiti D’Almeida, French JK Teacher
Editha-Nefertiti earned her Ph.D. in French and Francophone Literature at the University of Limoges in France, in February 2017. During her research, she participated in symposia and conferences in her domain around France, Europe, Canada, and also taught French language to different levels and ages in France, Germany, New York, Boston and D.C. area. She is native French speaker, but she also speaks German, Italian and two languages from Africa. She likes reading, travelling, working-out, enjoying times with her family, listening to music, and having fun with friends.
Erin Szabo, French JK/K Teacher
Erin was born in Richmond, VA, but has lived in many places including Portland, OR, Minneapolis, MN and St. Geniès-de-Comolas, France. She earned her Bachelor degrees in French and French Education from Miami University of Ohio in 2010 and subsequently taught as a kindergarten teacher at a public French immersion school in Portland, OR. Erin received her Master’s in Dual Language and Immersion Education from the University of Minnesota in 2017, which has helped deepen her advocacy for language immersion and interest in immersion-based instructional design. Erin enjoys baking, eating delicious vegetarian meals, dancing and volunteering at the SPCA.
Geraldine Dane, French Preschool Assistant Teacher
Ms. “Ge” has been a member of the ISC faculty since 2006 and 2018-2019 marks her thirteenth year teaching in the ISC's French Preschool class. A native of Paris, she loves to share her culture and language with her students and their families. Geraldine studied child and geriatric care in France and then pursued further studies to complement her natural ability to work with young children by earning her Child Development Associate Degree in 2009. She loves spending her free time with friends and family over some tasty French food.
Kate Gates, French Preschool Head Teacher
Kate earned a B.A in Psychology from the University of Paris, France and a AMI (Association Montessori Internationale) primary teaching degree. She taught 3 years in Montessori schools in Paris before moving to Charlottesville. She was the Head Teacher in ISC's French Preschool classes from 1999 to 2011, and after a four-year stint as Enrichment Teacher at the UVA Malcom Cole Child Care Center, she is back at ISC! In her free time, she loves cooking, traveling and having fun with her family and friends.
