Toddler Foreign Language Introduction Program

Our popular toddler program for ages 2-3 provides an introduction to Spanish and French language as part of a fun school day. Instruction occurs in English, but vocabulary is also introduced in both French and Spanish. During the toddler year, teachers emphasize emotional development and social interaction as well as the development of self-help skills, with the goal of instilling an early love of learning. School Day: All students attend 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Optional 8 a.m. arrival and/or full day program to 3 or 5:30 p.m.
Five day, three day, and two day schedules available with any of the above time selections.

 

Preschool Classes in French or Spanish

Our preschool classes are full-immersion programs for students age 33 months through 4 years old at the start of the school year. During the school day, instruction occurs in the target language, wtih a focus on building vocabulary, social development, and building confidence for early learners. Families choose either French or Spanish. Previous exposure to either language is not necessary for children or their parents. Click here to learn more about our preschool program.

Pre-Kindergarten Classes in French or Spanish

Our Pre-Kindergarten classes are full-immersion programs for students who have turned 4 by September 30. In this class, children develop their early academic skills, with a focus on reading, writing, and a holistic, hands-on introduction to math, science, music, and the arts. School Day: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays. All students attend 5 days.  Optional full day schedule to 5:30 p.m. 

 



Kindergarten Classes in French or Spanish

The ISC's full-immersion Kindergarten classes build upon the Pre-Kindergarten curriculum, preparing students for entry into First Grade.  Admission as a Kindergarten student is at the discretion of the Head of School and Director of Admission.  Prior exposure to French/Spanish may be required to serve the best interests of the child.  All Kindergarten students receive instruction in English Phonics in addition to the regular full immersion French/Spanish program to prepare for transition into English language-based local elementary schools. Extended Care Hours

The school offers flexible before-school care and full day options covering from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm. Students who stay for the full day continue their development in French and Spanish while participating in group activities that may include exposure to French, Spanish, and English. The extended care activities support the cultural awareness developed in the classrooms while offering a fun, caring environment for the children.

Good to know:

The International School of Charlottesville operates on an academic year calendar, with a schedule that loosely follows local public schools. We offer camps throughout the summer, and a special "Spring Break Camp" for families who need or want year-round care.
