Full-immersion classrooms for students who are 2 and 3/4 through 4 years old at the start of school, taught in French or Spanish.

Our preschool program is the first "full immersion" class for children at the ISC.  Instruction occurs in the target language, with a focus on building vocabulary, social development, and gaining confidence for early learners.  Teachers work with the children as a group, but also on an individual level to develop early pre-academic skills in math, science, and literacy.  Our experienced teachers serve as "living dictionaries" for the children, and a preschooler's brain is wired to soak up the target language quickly and naturally.

The children experience a variety of special activities including field trips, music classes, and guest teachers.  Depending on a child's age and readiness, he or she may spend one or two years in our preschool program before moving on to Pre-Kindergarten.

Field Trips and Special Activities

In the past, field trips have included Carter Mountain for "apple school," a visit to a working farm, a "behind-the-scenes" trip to Whole Foods Market, and strawberry picking.  When possible, parents and siblings are invited to attend field trips with the kids.

Teachers introduce concepts and vocabulary through fun, interesting themes.  The teachers plan around the interests of the children, since a main goal for preschool at the ISC is fostering excitement about school and an early love of learning.  Past themes have ranged from the study of individual countries (Australia, Mexico, etc), Geology, Dinosaurs, Pets/Animals, and the Farm.  Crafts, books, activities, and even field trips reflect the changing themes.

School Day

All students attend 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Families may also select naptime (12:30-3 pm) or choose to participate in the full-day program (9 am to 5:30 pm).  Morning Care (8-9 am) can be added to any program.  If space allows, drop-in care for the afternoon and full-day programs is available for half-day students.

Five day, three day (Mon-Wed-Fri), and two day (Tues-Thurs) schedules available with any of the above time selections.

Note: Children do not need to be fully potty-trained for entry into the preschool program.  However, we ask that children switch from diapers into pull-ups while they are at school.  Our experienced teachers work with parents to encourage intellectual, emotional, and physical development, and work as partners to support healthy eating, sleeping/nap, and potty-training efforts
